A Dog Park is the Sollution Grafton could satisfy the demonstrated need for this recreational activity as well as eliminate the potential open space conflict between dog owners and non-dog owners by creating a dog park. Dog parks are designated safe, legal, open areas of land where off-leash dogs, their owners and canine enthusiasts can recreate freely. Dog parks benefit both dog owners and those who choose to recreate without dogs by acknowledging the needs of both parties and providing ample space for each to enjoy the outdoors in clearly defined areas. Dog parks foster social interaction between diverse groups of people, thereby enhancing the sense of community within a town. People who visit dog parks forge friendships and town newcomers feel welcome as common interests and playful dogs help to break the ice.
Throughout the United States, municipalities are beginning to recognize the legitimate need for dog parks. Grafton has the opportunity to lead this trend in Massachusetts by establishing a thoughtfully created, well-managed dog park on underutilized public land such as Armand Dauphinais Memorial Park seen in these pictures.
