cant reply to park dad as clicking will not allow so here it is on the wrong end but nevertheless... if its a private dog park approach the owners who surely dont want mal behaving dogs or humans. If its a parks department dog park go to them and explain the situation or talk to other park users, who also in the majority wont condone biting dogs, and make the change happen. Thats what we did in our dog park, we checked fences, made sure there was a recycling bin for all the empty dog water (and people refuse) hay in mud season and what ever other improvements come to mind. Dog parks can be great but like any other situation, problems can arise that were unseen. And by the way, was this dog actually biting your boy in aggression or was he chasing, and biting in play? Not that the second is acceptable but it does change the situation... Good luck Park Dad

Estelle is a female pit bull mix that was found as a stray and lived in the pound for a year then went to rescuee for a few months prior to me adopting her. I'm single and not a lot of males are coming in and out of my home but apparently she was adopted a couple of times and had problems with the males living in the homes that is why she was returned. On day to day we don't have a problem but when we go out of town to my sisters she has 2 boys and 1 girl the girl can hang on her and she won't so much as flinch but the boys accidently get to close and she grows and shows her teeth. She does cower down to older men and run from them. How can I help her not be scared of boys and men?

Quick question, I had an incident at the Barrington RI Dog Park yesterday early evening. A dog chased and bit my 10 yr old son several times, drawing blood. He seemed to be playing, but we are unsure....My son was not trying to interact with the dog in any way, he was running our dog....My son and I sat on the bench looking over his injuries and were both shooken up. We didnt leave right away because we were waiting to meet a friend. The owner was a very young woman who apologized but did not leave....We asked her if the dog was up to date on his rabies shots...she said yes...When my friend arrived, the aggressive dog owner's male friend told her that I should take my son and leave the park immediately. So we did. At that point we felt bullied by the adult as well.
My question; at dog parks, why isnt anything posted about monitoring your own dog and removing any dogs that are aggressive towards other dogs and more importantly children! immediately. What seems like common sense to most of us needs to be posted in large print for some apparently.
Now I feel as if I cannot use the park anymore because I fear for my son and my dogs.
I am unsure how to go about getting that sign posted!!

Silly topic I know, but perhaps it will get your attention. I have a miniature Australian Shepard. She is quite friendly, except towards particular other animals. When I take her for a walk past the petting zoo she seems particularly interested in the goats and could care less about the pot-bellied pigs or emus.
Can this be innate in their genes? How does my little Aussie from Iowa even know what a sheep looks like?

Once a dog is vaccinated for rabies, how often does it have to get a booster shot? (I guess that's what a dog's consecutive shots are called.)

My 1 year old mutt has seemingly permanent tear tracks. Is this just a normal thing or does it indicate a problem?
